The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they will be retiring Steve Young's jersey on October 5th. Did it really need to take this long? Actually, the 49ers haven't retired Jerry Rice's jersey either. Boggles the mind. All this talk about Young reminded me of when I met him this past February out in Phoenix at Super Bowl XLII. Very nice guy. We actually share the same last name and he found it quite funny when I brought up the notion of us being related. Congratulations to Steve and good job ESPN on actually finding a player that converted quite nicely to the studio.
