ZONQ Sports On-Site Report: Florida-LSU Game (10/11/2008)

I've been going to Gator games for 15 years and all I can say is wow. The atmosphere for this past Saturday's game was the craziest I have ever seen. The number 4 LSU Tigers came rolling into town for what most thought would be a close game. It wasn't even close. The stat of the game had to be that Florida obtained 9 first downs before the Tigers got one. Nine! That is domination. The speed that the Gators have at RB and WR may be the fastest group ever to play college football on the same team. It could take you days to list them. Percy Harvin, Brandon James, Jeff Demps, Chris Rainey, Deonte Thompson, Louis Murphy. These guys came to run and boy did they ever. And another guy you might have heard of, Tim Tebow, didn't do too bad himself.

Unfortunately, the refs did not do a good job. I don't know what's been going on with football officiating lately but it has been absolutely terrible. This game had many calls, going both ways, that were missed beyond belief. Blocks in the back, pass interference, holding. I don't know what needs to change or how to fix it but somebody needs to get on the ball cause it's gotten out of hand.

Other things that have gotten out of hand? Les Miles. I think Miles is an incredible coach and any team would be lucky to have him. He makes his players carry a swagger that hasn't been seen since the days of Bear Bryant and Woody Hayes. But Les, are we serious?! You are down by 30 points with less than 30 seconds left and you still are running plays?! Don't you see the danger in having players, especially starters, get hurt when the game has become meaningless. Swallow your pride and accept defeat, there aren't any 30 point plays.

Like I mentioned before, the Swamp was a madhouse. If you want to experience college football at its very best, head to Gainesville for a night game against a ranked opponent. Believe me, it'll be worth any amount of money you spend on tickets.
